- ✏️ How Is It Calculated?
Volumetric Weight (kg) = (Length × Width × Height in cm) ÷ 5000
We then compare this with the actual weight of your package (measured in kg), and whichever is higher will be used to determine your shipping charge. If the result is not a whole number, it will be rounded up to the next full kg.

✅ Scenario 1 – Volumetric weight is higher
You’re shipping a lightweight but bulky box:
Dimensions: 50cm × 40cm × 30cm
Actual Weight: 8 kg
Volumetric Weight = (50 × 40 × 30) ÷ 5000 = 12 kg
Chargeable weight: 12 kg (since it’s higher than the actual weight) Shape
✅ Scenario 2 – Actual weight is higher
You’re shipping a compact but heavy item:
Dimensions: 30cm × 30cm × 30cm
Actual Weight: 15 kg
Volumetric Weight = (30 × 30 × 30) ÷ 5000 = 5.4 kg, rounded up to 6 kg
Chargeable weight: 15 kg (since actual weight is higher)

This method ensures fairness in air cargo pricing, especially when large, lightweight packages take up more space than heavier, smaller ones. It’s how all major air carriers and couriers calculate costs—including DESTPRO.

How DestPro calculates GST on every shipment
Stepbystep GST computation
- You enter the value of the shipment that you were charged in Singapore Dollars (S$)
– We use the day’s exchange rate to convert the merchant’s currency to SGD.
- Add the freight and any optional insurance you ask us to arrange
– These are part of the “customsassessable value” because the goods have to reach Singapore to be usable.
- Apply the prevailing GST rate (currently 9 %) to the total

So at checkout you would see S$ 20.93 GST added to your payment total which should be, as in this example : $25 + $5 + $20.93 = $50.93. The $20.93 will be paid to IRAS.
Why DestPro has to do this
- From 1 Jan 2023, all LowValue Goods (LVG) ≤ S$400 imported by air or post are taxable when they are sold to a consumer in Singapore.
- Parcelforwarding companies like DestPro are treated by IRAS as “redeliverers.” Once we are GSTregistered, we must collect GST upfront on the customer’s behalf instead of you paying import GST to Customs later.
